Geo Rex is available in the Flying Parrot Quilts pattern shop!
Geo Rex was originally designed for the Jurassic Park dinosaur quilt swap earlier this year. As usual, I couldn’t find the exact pattern I wanted, so I came up with my own Tyrannosaurus rex! Here is the paper pieced dinosaur quilt block I made into a mini for my swap partner:
For my partner, I added some stenciled words with her favorite quote from the movie, “…dinosaurs eat man… woman inherits the earth.”
The T. rex is paper pieced, and it works well with just four different fabrics! I figured it was appropriate to include both right- and left-facing versions in a pattern, so I designed a fun little baby quilt that takes just two blocks, and some coordinating fabric (I used a fern-patterned batik, as I thought it evoked Jurassic forests!).
I took these photos at the visitor center for Sapelo Island off the Georgia coast. The visitor center is on the mainland, but I was waiting for a researcher to bring over some scientific samples on the ferry which I had driven down to pick up and used the opportunity for some scenic shots by the marsh. All those palmettos look a bit Jurassic, too, I think!
It might look like these two T. Rexes are about to clash, but it’s a baby quilt, so really they are just making friends with each other!
As evidenced by the initial swap quilt, the individual blocks make fun mini quilts, too. Here’s another mini I made for my wall:
I had a little fun taking photos of this guy sneaking through the foliage in an appropriately terrifying T. rex way.
This paper pieced dinosaur quilt block is available now in my shop in both paper and PDF formats!
