The Artichoke block mini quilt pattern is available in the Flying Parrot Quilts pattern shop.
As part of the whole Quilt Market preparations, I also updated my Artichoke block pattern. The Artichoke quilt block is a paper pieced block pattern that works great as a mini quilt, wallhanging, or incorporated into a larger quilt.
Of course I had to make it in green to better reflect the name I gave the block! I did add a pillow backing to it, because I figured I already had a wallhanging, so why not a pillow?
The big update here is that I added another setting option to the pattern that omits the circle in the original. I love the circular setting, but I know not everyone does, so now both settings are included in the pattern, and you can choose for yourself which you’d prefer! Here’s a picture of the original red version with the circular setting:
As you can see, my quilting on the original was super complex. For the new version, I wanted to go with something simpler to show that that also works. With this one, I stitched concentric circles with my walking foot. Honestly, I usually prefer to do a spiral because that doesn’t involve stopping and starting my quilting stitches so often. In this case, though, I just really wanted the stitching lines to stay in the same place across all eight sides of the design here. So burying threads it was!
I’m really happy with the way this one turned out too. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did, particularly the option to choose your own setting adventure!
The Artichoke is available as a PDF and as a paper pattern.
