It’s another nerdy quilt celebrating lab equipment! This quilt is called Microscope Mania, and it’s all traditional piecing—no templates or paper piecing to fuss around with!

I chose Moda Grunge fabrics and a Robert Kaufman Essex sparkle linen for my quilt. It’s fat quarter friendly, and each fat quarter makes two microscopes.
The quilt comes in two sizes, twin and queen (the sample quilt above is the twin size). I also included cutting directions for a single block, in case you want to make a mini quilt or incorporate just a block or two into a larger quilt. Just add 2″ borders to create an easy mini!
For my large quilt, I wanted to come up with a background quilting design that would look like something that you’d see under the microscope. I eventually settled on squiggly lines that surround small irregular sections of pebbles. I ditch-stitched and added some straight lines on the microscopes themselves.
