I’m very excited to be giving a lecture at QuiltCon in Nashville next year! It’s titled “Traditional Block, Modern Quilt: Designing with Negative Space” and will be all about giving you tools to start designing your own modern quilts. I hope you’ll join me!
Description: One of the hallmarks of modern quilting is the use of extensive negative space, but how do you arrange your negative space to make a cohesive quilt design? In this lecture, we will explore different ways to approach designing a quilt with negative space. We’ll walk through the design process step by step, starting with a traditional quilt block and ending with a finished modern quilt. This breaks the design process into manageable chunks that you will have the confidence to explore on your own later. Fabric choices and quilting options for enhancing the negative space will also be discussed. Whether you haven’t had the confidence to design your own modern quilts yet or you’re an experienced modern quilter, you’ll leave full of new ideas on how to use negative space.
