This was not my year for QuiltCon acceptances, but I do have one quilt hanging in the upcoming show. Cool Pool is one of the patterns featured in QuiltCon Magazine this year, and you can see it in Nashville at the show!
You can also find me at the show; here’s my schedule. I’d love to meet you, so if you see me roaming the show floor, please stop and say hi (and trade pins)!
Thursday 2:30-3:15 pm: “Traditional Block, Modern Quilt: Designing with Negative Space” lecture
Thursday 4-5 pm: Book signing in the Intown Quilters booth (#1117)
Saturday 12-1 pm: Book signing in the Stash Books/C&T Publishing booth (#500)
Okay, back to the quilt! It was inspired by steps leading into a pool, and all you need is three blocks and some big pieces of fabric. The fabrics are Robert Kaufman Kona cottons, which are just about the only brand of solid that had enough shades of teal for this project! In case you’re wondering the aqua shades are Sea Glass, Aqua, Azure, Capri, Breakers, Jade Green, and Ultra Marine, and the blue is Deep Blue.
I quilted it simply, with lines following the contours of the quilt.
I did take the time to match the binding to the piecing. I could have done a facing (in which the edge gets turned to the back of the quilt), but I was just really tired of facings. I’ve done a lot of facings lately, and so I decided to piece the binding and include those instructions in the pattern instead. So, if you have been wondering how to match binding like this, be sure to pick up your copy of the magazine!

It certainly deserves a place in Quiltcon, and to score a spot in the magazine! Wow, you should be very proud of your accomplishments. I’m sorry that more of your quilts didn’t make it into the show but I think that judging for quilt shows is a very subjective thing. Sometimes, its just not our time to shine.

Beautiful quilt!! Your quilting may be simple, but it is pristine!!! I hope that you have a great time at QuiltCon!!
