I’ve got a new pattern out in Make Modern magazine today! Inverted Pink Star is a quilt whose design I discuss in my new book. (I was a little limited in the color palette I could use in the book illustrations, so this quilt is more like I had originally intended!)
It’s a lap size quilt, 48″ x 48″. The fabrics in this quilt are the lovely Paintbrush Palette solids, and the batting is the new Hobbs Tuscany Supreme Cotton batting. If you like half square triangles, this is definitely a quilt for you!
Quilters always want to know whether I quilt on a domestic or a longarm, and while I do now have a longarm, this is one of those designs that you really can’t do on a longarm (or at least, I haven’t yet heard of a way to do this that wouldn’t be an absolute nightmare of breaking threads and/or rolling the quilt back and forth). So, to quilt this great big spiral, I used my free motion quilting foot on the domestic machine to start the center, and then switched to my walking foot to go around and around and around. I think these sorts of simple quilting designs work nicely with quilts that have relatively extensive piecing.
I used pinks, but I think this quilt would be lovely in any monochromatic color scheme, and it could be interesting to try a favorite print in the big central star, too!
This issue of the magazine also includes a feature in which I talk a little more about my process, etc.! (And it’s the closest yet I’ve come to making the cover of a magazine! 🙂 ) If you’d like to get your copy, use promo code 27special through tomorrow, March 9, to get $2AUD off Issue 27.
