I’m so excited to be part of the Good Vibes Only blog hop today!
Good Vibes Only is the new fabric line designed by Shayla Wolf of Sassafras Lane, and I’ve admired her style for a long time, so I was thrilled when she asked me to make a project with her newest fabrics from Windham Fabrics.
I love fabrics like this—saturated color with subtle prints that add interest to the fabric, but don’t overwhelm a quilt with pattern. And this set is so full of rainbow-y goodness, I just knew it would be perfect for my Gossamer Wings pattern.
This block is paper pieced and finishes at 18″, although the pattern does include a 12″ and a 9″ block as well, if you’re looking for a smaller size.
I decided to finish mine as a pillow, since my couch is disturbingly lacking in throw pillows
Shayla’s line includes a few really fun word prints, and I used those for the backing and interior of the pillow.
I quilted the mini by stitching in the ditch around the dragonfly and the wing pieces with clear monofilament thread, and used a flower fill in the background.
I’m glad to finally have at least one throw pillow on the couch to indicate I’m a quilter!
(Incidentally, those are the parrots of Flying Parrot Quilts in the background, though they are not in fact flying parrots. We will not discuss their lack of abilities in the flying department here, as that would be unseemly and embarrassing to them.)
If you’d like to win a few fat quarters of Good Vibes Only, and a PDF copy of the Gossamer Wings pattern, use the widget below! Entries are open until Monday, June 10, at midnight.

Love the pillow! I have a rescue parrot who can’t fly too! Guido is a red napped Amazon with a neurological disorder called Stargazer’s syndrome! I rescued him from a breeder who was going to destroy him almost 20 years ago! Unfortunately his one bad habit aside from Wolf whistling is screaming “shut up” LOL ….I have no idea why ( seriously he is very loud!)….
Beautiful colors in this new collection. I’d love to make your Gossamer Wings pattern. Paper piecing is so much fun. Thanks for sharing.
You’ve really captured the beauty of a dragonfly with your pattern and fabric.
Your gossamer wings pillow is breathtaking! Makes me want the pattern and the fabrics, though mine would be a wall hanging.
I would make a pillow. I have been working on some dog pillows in bright colors and these fabrics would be perfect. Love your dragonfly pillow.
My granddaughter loves bugs and I have been collecting patterns to make her a bug quilt. How fun this dragonfly would be and I love your use of the black fabric with the yellow as the dragonfly’s eyes!

I’m so in live with your Gossamer Wings Dragon Fly!!! I hope as much as another that I win your lovely pattern as much as anyone else. But chance that I dont I’m ginna get it later. It is just a beautiful designed pattern! Dragonflys are a favorite, every since I saw one when I was about 6 years old and it was teal blue & purple iridescent, with multi colored wings. Up to that point, I had only seen the big brown ones that stay around marshes & bogs. I was utterly amazed and overtaken by its beauty! since I have them incorporated in lots of things around my home.
The pillow looks fine too!
Sew gorgeous!
An awesome pillow to make a quilty statement!
