I had a pattern in last year’s Quilter’s Planner, and I’m delighted to have another one in this year’s. Meet Fiery Sunset!
This quilt is based on a traditional block called “King’s Chain,” which is of course related to the beloved Irish Chain block. It replaces a bunch of the squares in the Irish Chain block with half square triangles. The block is still partially strip-pieced to help speed up construction.
I made this quilt with Kona cotton solids; specifically Corn Yellow, School Bus, Lipstick, Ruby, Hibiscus, and Regal. I just love how it glows! It was actually inspired by a fat quarter bundle in a gradient similar to this, which makes this an unusual quilt for me because I usually design first, then choose colors.
Because it’s a pretty busy quilt color-wise, I chose to keep the quilting simple with a pantograph (“Russian Flames”) and variegated thread.
If you’d like to preorder your copy of the planner and magazine, you can do so here. I’m super excited about all the customization options that are being offered this year, particularly the choice of a Sunday vs. Monday start (which is something I have strong opinions on)!
