I have a new pattern out in this month’s issue of American Quilter, and this one is another design that you might have seen in my book, although it was a little bigger and the design was shown in a different color scheme. AQS thought it might make a great holiday quilt, and I agree with them!
Canoe Sparkler is based on the traditional “Crossed Canoes” block and is a wallhanging that comes together super quickly. The Canoe blocks are paper pieced, but there are only 10 of them, so this is a great pattern if you’ve been thinking about dipping your toes into the world of paper piecing.
Clothworks kindly provided their lovely American Made Brand solid fabrics (specifically, Light Tomato, Red, Dark Yellow, and Light Gold) for this quilt. You can get a kit from AQS!
I quilted it with a pantograph of swirls and stars to enhance the festive feel of the quilt, but this is the sort of design that can be done nicely on a domestic machine, too.
Incidentally, this quilt would work in a lot of different colors if this particular set doesn’t appeal to you. I really loved the following one, which I really am going to have to make one of these days!

I really love holiday quilts that don’t scream traditional. It’s lovely. Congratulations!

I love these colors! Beautiful! It is a lovely Christmas quilt but also wouldn’t look out of place the rest of the year.
