This month’s EQ Spotlight Block is Two Little Flowers 2. If you’ve followed me at all, you’ll probably know that this is not at all my style of block. So this seemed like it was going to be quite the challenge! Since I had such good luck with the Kaleidoscope function the last couple of months, I thought I’d see what it could do with an appliqué block like this.
Things were not looking promising until I got to the very bottom and found a section of the block that included only the stems:
Now that was a block that was more my style!
Unfortunately, because it was appliqué, that meant I couldn’t recolor all those cream sections individually. So, I decided to redraw the block as a pieced block by selecting everything and converting to guides:
Then, I traced one eighth of the block to make a foundation pieced segment:
After that it was a matter of copying and pasting that segment to finish out the block, and I was able to recolor the block:
Here’s that in a quilt:
It was pretty obvious that those lines needed to be extended, because they’d make an interesting secondary design if they were, so it was back to the block drawing for some modification:
After this, I had a crazy idea. What if I Kaleidoscoped my Kaleidoscope block?!
I’m not going to lie, this block would be a real pain to piece. But how cool a quilt would it make?!
Once again, I ended up completely changing up the block that was the actual spotlight block, but that’s the fun part of this!
