Welcome to the final stop on the Halloween Hoppers blog tour! If you’ve not dropped by before, this is the home of the Epic Halloween Quilt-Along, above, but before we get to that, I want to share a simpler pattern.
For those of you who don’t know me, my background is in science, and so I often make science-inspired quilts. The first science quilt pattern I wrote was for Potions, a quilt inspired by glassware in chemistry labs. As it happens, though, this also makes a great Halloween quilt, as shown in this little pillow!
This particular pattern is pieced entirely using traditional piecing techniques; no templates or paper piecing is involved. I am, however, a big fan of paper piecing, and many of my patterns do involve that, like Spooky Spider:
This is a block that I designed when I was trying to put together blocks for the Epic Halloween Quilt, and so it comes in three different sizes.
The Epic Halloween Quilt itself was inspired by a collection of Halloween fabrics in an unusual color palette that I found at my local quilt shop one year. While I enjoy Halloween, orange and black never appealed to me all that much, and so I never saw myself making a Halloween quilt. These grays and muted pinks, purples, and mints, though, really spoke to me. And so they came home with me, and the process of coming up with the perfect use for them began. In the end, I settled on my own version of a sampler quilt (something else I never thought I’d make).
I included a few Halloween blocks from other designers, so there is not a single pattern for this quilt. However, it was so popular when I posted it that I put together a quilt-along and lots of quilters have gone on to make their own versions!
The quilt-along is still up on my website, so if you would like to make your own version of this quilt you can do so! Start with the first post to find links to all the patterns, including those by other designers like the bats and the ring of coffins seen above!
A number of the blocks are also available as individual patterns. You can find all my Halloween patterns in the shop! Below are links to all the other blogs on this hop, so be sure to check them out for more spooky fun and inspiration.
