Now that she has received it (several months late), I can finally post pictures of the wedding quilt I made for a dear friend from college!

Obviously, I wanted to make her a double wedding ring quilt! I haven’t seen her in a while, but she told me that her home was decorated in reds and blacks/grays, so I settled on black rings with red inside the melon shapes and a white background.

In order to make things go a little more quickly, I decided not to piece the arcs, and just make them a black solid. I think this ended up working well, because I wanted to use scrappy fabrics for the red and white, and choose fabrics that represent some things that she and her husband enjoy.

I used some music fabric because we played together in our college band. However, my very favorite fabric in this quilt is the cat fabric, which I’ve had and held on to for ages, not having the correct project for it—until now, because she is a cat lover!

I managed to not purchase quite enough of the black and red backing, so I went ahead and pieced the label into the backing (along with some ladybug fabric “for luck”). My current technique for making labels is to design them on the computer, then print it out and trace onto fabric using a micron pen and a Lightbox. (I blurred the names, as my friend is a healthcare professional and doesn’t use her real name for personal stuff online.)

For the quilting, of course I chose a heart pantograph. This quilt dealt me what is probably my worst and most painful loss at bobbin chicken to date.

After winding another bobbin for literally ten more stitches and finishing the quilting, I bound it with a red stripe. I don’t do stripy bias bindings nearly often enough, so I was glad to get a chance to do so here!

At the very least, I have gotten confirmation that this quilt is cat-approved, so hopefully it will be well-loved!
